Private Sewage Disposal

The Division of Environmental Health conducts plan reviews, permitting and final installation inspections for new and
renovated private sewage disposal systems.  Education and regulation concerning private sewage disposal systems help
ensure proper human waste water disposal.  This limits exposure to pathogens and reduces negative environmental
impacts.

Private Sewage Installation and Renovation
Before a private sewage disposal system can be installed, a Private Sewage Disposal System Plan Review
Application
and $75.00 application fee must be submitted.  If the proposed system meets the requirements of the Illinois
Department of Public Health Private Sewage Disposal Licensing Act and Code, the applicant will be granted a permit.  It is
then the responsibility of the applicant to give 48 hour notification to the Division of Environmental Health prior to
installation.

Below are documents and links which can help you determine the proper system to suit your needs.  If you have any
additional questions regarding private sewage disposal systems, we are happy to meet with you and explain the various
options available.  Please contact us at (618) 283-1044 to make an appointment.
